You have decided that you want to buy your first motorcycle and you want to have a quality bike that easy to learn on. The Honda Rebel CMX250 is a good choice in a beginner motorcycle. Honda has been making this bike, almost unchanged for over 25 years. Although it's usually referred to as a 250cc motorcycle, it's really a parallel twin cylinder 234cc air cooled bike. This is the same motorcycle that is used across the country at motorcycle certified rider training schools like the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and others where you learn hands on how to ride. Everybody should seriously consider enrolling in one of these training courses at it literally can be a lifesaver. Even experienced riders can gain some knowledge from these courses. If you have never ridden before, it's the best way to get up to speed quickly with the proper knowledge to get you on the road safely. In addition, most insurance companies usually give you a discount if you have attended one of these schools.
The Honda Rebel is good looking, sits low to the ground and is easy to handle. The seat sits approximately 27 inches from the ground making this an easy rider for even shorter people. If you are tall, you might feel a bit cramped and perhaps you should take a peek at a Yamaha Vstar 250 which may be a better fit. Technically this bike is classified as a cruiser. Cruisers were an American design that started way back with the early Indian and Harley Davidson motorcycles, and now they encompass a huge share of all motorcycles sold.
The gearing on this Honda is a typical 5 speed transmission, with a one down 4 up shift pattern. This bike is very forgiving for newbie riders making it a joy to learn on. Light on its feet at just over 300 lbs, It's literally an easy rider. A nice sized front disc brake and rear drum will give you plenty of stopping power. Due to it's low seating position and low center of gravity this bike is a breeze to maneuver in any situation.
It's comfortable, stylish and comes with that time tested Honda durability and reliability. It will get you about 70mpg on regular and is able to sustain highway speeds although due to it's light weight, I would not recommend it for excessive highway travel. It certainly is a great city commuter and a ton of fun to learn on and to drive.
